ONEONTA, NY - A standout defensive effort from the Alfred University women's soccer team led to a 0-0 draw against Hartwick College on Friday night.
"Tough defensive battle tonight," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "Our midfield and defense played hard. We are looking forward to getting back to work Monday and continue to work on ways to get some more scoring opportunities."
Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) had an excellent outing in goal for the Saxons, picking up nine saves and finishing with her third consecutive shutout performance. In the opening half, Barnard-Pratt recorded a pair of saves within the first eight minutes of action.
Abby Scanlan (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico) was the first for AU to record a shot on goal in the 13th minute. The Saxons defended five corner kick opportunities from the Hawks before going into halftime with a scoreless draw. Scanlan was once again the first for Alfred University to tally a shot on goal to begin the second half, with
Anna Henner (Williamson, NY/Williamsville Senior) attempting a shot moments later. Hartwick forced five shots of their own in the closing half, but AU was able to step up on the defensive end to earn the draw.
Alfred University will next wrap up their regular season on the road at SUNY Poly on Wednesday at 6:00 PM.
