ROCHESTER, NY - The Alfred University women's soccer team continued Empire 8 competition with a 2-0 loss to St. John Fisher University on Wednesday night. 

"Very unfortunate result tonight," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "The coaching staff and the team have a lot to work on to get better results."

The early stages of the matchup were reliant on defense for both sides, as the Saxons held the Cardinals without a shot on goal across the first 30 minutes of the first half. The best scoring opportunity for Alfred University came from Alyssa Smith (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River), who put up a shot on goal for the Saxons before each side went into halftime with a scoreless draw. A corner kick opportunity for the Cardinals early in the second half was originally rejected by the Saxons, but an eventual header gave Fisher the lead. An eventual goal from the Cardinals in the 63rd minute of play was enough to extend the advantage and ultimately secure the conference win. 

Alfred University will next travel to face Elmira College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
