Women's Soccer Concludes Senior Night With Draw Against Geneseo

ALFRED, NY - A strong defensive effort from the Alfred University women's soccer team led to a 0-0 draw against SUNY Geneseo on Saturday night from Yunevich Stadium.

Prior to the game, Alfred University Athletics had a chance to recognize the women's soccer program's eight outgoing seniors. This included Jodean Bray (Bovina Center, NY/Delaware Academy), Madison Lee (Dansville, NY/Dansville), Emma Ljiljanich (Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda), Andrea McMahon (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond), Kayla Silverstein (North Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili), Alyssa Smith (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River), Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville-Griffith Institute) and Claire Squicciarini (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico).

"Congratulations to our seniors, they have had such a huge impact on our program," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "I'm really proud of the effort the team put forth tonight. We are looking forward to getting back to work Monday to prepare for a tough Sage team on Tuesday."

The defense for AU stayed alert early in the opening half, defending five shots inside the first 15 minutes of action. Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) recorded an impressive save for the Saxons during the 21st minute. Alfred University had a late corner kick opportunity in the first half, but a header from Solly was off the mark before both sides went into the break with a 0-0 tie.

The offense for AU set the tone to begin the second half, as the Saxons attempted four shots following a corner kick attempt by Sidney Khuns (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport). Both defenses played well throughout the evening, but the most impressive sequence came from the AU defense in the closing minutes of regulation, as the team defended a pair of corner kicks that resulted in a combined five shot attempts across three minutes. With neither side reaching the back of the net, Alfred University managed to come away with a draw.

Alfred University will next face Russell Sage in their rescheduled home match on Tuesday at 3:00 PM.
