ALFRED, NY - A competitive outing against Utica University resulted in a scoreless draw for the Alfred University women's soccer team on Saturday night from Yunevich Stadium. 

The Saxons (6-2-3, 2-2-2 Empire 8) limited the Pioneers (4-8-1, 2-4-1 Empire 8) to just three shots on goal and three corner kick opportunities.

"I thought we played well overall, but there are still some aspects to work on," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "We are looking forward to a few days off before regrouping and preparing for Brockport on Wednesday."

The Saxons set the tone early on in the opening half, nearly scoring from a shot attempt by Abby Scanlan (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico) in the fourth minute of play. Alfred University held Utica without a shot attempt through the first 17 minutes of action, with Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) recording her first save of the evening. Sidney Khuns (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) put up a shot on goal later in the half but could not reach the back of the net before both sides entered halftime with a 0-0 draw. The Saxons had another close scoring opportunity in the early moments of the second half, as a shot attempt by Lina Young (North Collins, NY/North Collins) went a bit too high. The Saxons defense was ultimately forced to defend a series of corner kick attempts by the Pioneers before closing out the game with a tie. 

Alfred University will next travel to SUNY Brockport on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
