ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University Men's Soccer team drew 1-1 against Keuka College in their first Empire-8 home game.
The Saxons were led by Gavin Culley (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) who scored a goal and recorded five shots. Chase Freeland (Hornell, NY/Hornell) added an assist along with 8 shots. Goalkeeper Matthew Osmundson (Draper, UT/Juan Diego Catholic) recorded one save for AU.
The Saxons took the early lead in the 13th minute when Culley found the back of the net from a Freeland pass. Alfred University outshot Keuka College by a landslide; 28-8 overall and 11-2 on goal. Alfred also had a total of thirteen corners to a single Keuka corner kick. Unfortunately, the Saxons weren't able to find a second goal after the Wolves equalized in the 64th minute. The difference in the game turned out to be stellar play from the Keuka goalkeeper, who recorded ten saves.
Alfred University will next play at home against Houghton University in their third Empire-8 contest. The match is set to kickoff on Saturday, September 30th at 1 PM.
