ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team picked up their sixth straight win of the season following an 8-1 victory over SUNY Brockport on Friday afternoon from the Saxons Tennis Courts.  

"This was another big win for us today," Head Coach Jordan Crouch. "Today was all about urgency. We got after it early and often and were able to set ourselves up with great opportunities to win. I'm very happy about where we are headed into our first Empire 8 match tomorrow against Utica. Special shoutout to Allison battling through a tight second set and managing to win in a breaker. This team is truly as iron sharpens iron! See you there tomorrow at 1pm!

Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) were responsible for AU's first point in doubles action from the No. 2 position, winning 8-2. Call later won 6-1, 6-1 from singles, while Madsen picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) and Macy Youngberg (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central) continued their strong start from No. 1 doubles, recording an 8-3 win. Zabihailo later appeared in No. 1 singles, winning 6-2, 6-3. Youngberg played well from No. 2 singles, picking up the 6-2, 6-1 win. Anna Gwozdz (South Wales, NY/Iroquouis) and Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) each recorded a respective victory in singles action to round out the win for AU.  

Alfred University will next celebrate their Senior Day against Utica University on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
