GENEVA, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team dropped a four-set match at William Smith College on Tuesday evening from Bristol Gym.
 
The Saxons (3-4, 0-0 Empire 8) won the opening set, 26-24 but dropped the next three, 19-25, 23-25 and 16-25 to the Herons (6-1, 0-0 Liberty League).

"We fought hard against one of the better teams in the region, on their home floor and had a couple opportunities to steal even more momentum from them," Head Coach Mike Honeycutt said. "While we may not have come out on top, this shows how competitive we can be and will give us momentum going into the weekend."
 
Taylor Malone (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) continues her strong scoring start as she had the match-high, 18.0 points from a match-high 15 kills and added two aces and one solo block. She rounded out her stat-line with five digs and a set assist.
 
Darian Ortiz (Santa Fe, NM/St. Michael's) was also a statistical leader for the match, totaling 14 digs while adding three points from aces. Delaney Sims (Bogart, GA/George Walton Academy) had a team-high in set assists with 18.
 
The Saxons will next travel to the Buff State Bengal Challenge for a two-day tournament on Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16. They will first take on Covenant College (GA) on Friday at 7:00pm. Then, they face Penn State Behrend at 11:00am on Saturday, followed by a match-up with the hosts at 3:00pm.
