ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University women's tennis secured their fifth straight win of the season following a 6-2 victory over Penn State Behrend on Monday afternoon from the Saxons Tennis Courts.
The Alfred University women's tennis program partnered alongside 13thirty Cancer Connect as part of their annual Pink Match on Monday. The program began to work with 13thirty Cancer Connect in honor of Saxons alumna and former tennis player,
Courtney (Ferrara) Wilhelm '17.
"I'm very proud of our team and how we battled back after going down 2-1 in doubles," Head Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "We showed a lot of resiliencies to come back and sweep the singles that got to finish. What a great way to get our fifth win on the year. I'm also very happy to get to raise some money for 13thirty in honor of Courtney. We're thrilled to work with such a great organization and help them support young adults and their families going through a difficult time. We're back in the lab this week to fix some thing and then another great test this weekend with Brockport and Utica coming up."
An 8-0 sweep from the efforts of
Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) from No. 2 doubles gave the Saxons their first win of the afternoon. Madsen later battled from No. 4 singles, winning in the first and third sets for Alfred University.
Anna Gwozdz (South Wales, NY/Iroquois) was the first Saxon to win in singles action from No. 3 in 6-3, 6-3 fashion.
