HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team won their fourth consecutive match of the 2023-24 season following a 9-0 win over Mount Aloysius College on Sunday.
"Today was a great win for our team," Head Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "Our focus heading into today was being aggressive and seizing every opportunity that we had, and I think we did a great job. We will rest up and get right back it tomorrow for our Pink Match against Penn State-Behrend. Hopefully we can raise lots of money for 13thirty! See you there!"
The combined efforts of
Macy Youngberg (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central) and
Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) were enough to win from No. 1 doubles in 8-2 fashion. Zabihailo later appeared in No. 1 singles, not allowing a single point during her 6-0, 6-0 win. Youngberg continued her impressive start to the fall season with a 6-2, 6-2 win from No. 2 singles.
Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) were successful from No. 2 doubles for Alfred University, winning 8-3. Both Call and Madsen picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles action for AU.
Anna Gwozdz (South Wales, NY/Iroquous) played well in No. 3 singles, winning 7-5, 6-3.
Alfred University will next host Penn State-Behrend on Monday for their 'Pink Match'. Matches are scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
