GENESEO, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team began their fall season with a 2-0 loss to SUNY Geneseo on Friday night.
The Saxons (0-1, 0-0 Empire 8) defended 17 shots, while the Knights (1-0, 0-0 SUNYAC) recorded seven corner kick opportunities.
"I think the team battled hard for 90 minutes against a very good Geneseo team," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "It was good to open up with such a strong team to show us where we are at as a team and show us what we need to work on."
Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) totaled nine saves for Alfred University.
The Saxons defense remained strong throughout the first half, successfully defending five shots in the first half before entering the break with a scoreless draw. The Knights found the back of the net for their first goal of the evening during the 58th minute. SUNY Geneseo extended their lead later in the half, ultimately securing the win.
"We are looking forward to getting back to work for our next game and continuing to improve one day at a time," Yanni said.
Alfred University will next remain on the road for a non-conference matchup against SUNY Oneonta on Tuesday at 4:00 PM.
