UTICA, NY - The Alfred University women's lacrosse team was defeated by Utica University by a score of 21-9 on Saturday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. 

The Saxons (1-11, 1-5 Empire 8) came up short against the Pioneers (8-6, 4-2 Empire 8) in their sixth Empire 8 Conference matchup.

Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) led the Saxons with five goals and two assists. Brenna Turner (Bentonville, AR/Bentonville) had two goals and an assist. Hailey Stroh (Houghton, NY/Homeschool) and Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) both added one goal. Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster) recorded six saves for the Saxons. 

"Defensive communication and slides improved. We had trouble clearing at times but we executed well offensively and had some solid opportunities. It was great energy and effort for the full game, and it was encouraging to see us execute a lot of the things we've been working on at practice." Head Coach Julie Decker said.

The Pioneers took an early lead scoring four straight to start the game and were able to hold onto the lead the rest of the way. The score at halftime was 15-5 in favor of the Pioneers. The Saxons battled back in the second half scoring four goals while only conceding six. In the end, three straight Saxon goals in the third quarter proved to be too little to mount a comeback.

Alfred University will next return home on Saturday, April 29 at 4:00 PM for their final Empire 8 Matchup and Senior Day against Medaille University.
