Saxons Unable To Hold Off Wolverines

GROVE CITY, PA - The Alfred University women's lacrosse team fell to Grove City College by a score of 12-6 on Saturday afternoon from Robert E. Thorn Field.

The Saxons (0-5, 0-0 Empire 8) were unable to hold off the Wolverines (2-6, 0-0 PAC).

Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) and Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) led the Saxons with two goals each. Brenna Turner (Bentonville, AR/Bentonville) and Hailey Stroh (Houghton, NY/Homeschool) both added a goal for AU as well. Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster) recorded 14 saves for the Saxons.

"We got off to a slow start, had some bad turnovers and weren't able to get a lot of offensive possessions going early in the game." Head Coach Julie Decker said.

The Wolverines were first on the scoreboard with two early goals, but the Saxons responded with a goal from Stroh, as they were able to take advantage of their man-up. Grove City then scored five straight to lead 7-1 going into halftime. During the third quarter, goals from Bedette and Wise brought the game to a score of 8-3. Wise fired in another goal in the fourth, to make it back-to-back games with two goals for her. Alfred showed they weren't willing to go down easy, scoring five goals in the second half, but were unable to get the job done in the end.

"The second half was much stronger, coming up with more draws; we were making smarter decisions and were able to finish. Now, we just need to put together a full game like that." Decker said.

Alfred University will play next at Morrisville State College on Wednesday, March 29 at 6:00 PM.
