ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team was able to claim a win over Fredonia but fell to University of Rochester in their home Tri-Meet.
The Saxons (2-2, 0-0 Empire 8) defeated the Blue Devils (0-5, 0-0 SUNYAC) by a score of 240-27 and lost to the Yellow Jackets (4-2, 0-0 UAA) by a score of 163-131 on Saturday afternoon.
"It was a long afternoon, but we performed very well." Head Coach Brian Striker '00 said. "For various reasons we were a little short handed on the women's side and it was great to pick up a victory against Fredonia. The Men kept a very close meet with Rochester, which hasn't really been the case over the years. I was really happy with the swims and the diving. We are in a great place and keep our eyes focused on February!"
The 200-yard medley relay team of William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne), Wade LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne), Alessandro Lagos Canales (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln) and Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's) got things started with a first place finishing time of 1:37.22 beating University of Rochester by a mere .06 of a second!
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) picked up the first individual win of the day in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1:47.66. He also claimed a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.09. Along with the two firsts, he was also second in the 100-yard freestyle.
William LaMastus won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.88. He also placed second in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM. Fernando Lagos (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln) finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 53.58.
Emiliano Terrazas (2nd) and Wade LaMastus (3rd) finished second and third in the 100-yard Breaststroke. Giuseppe Piede (Dunellen, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) had a second place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.65. Terrazas also was second in the 200-yard breaststroke.
In Diving, Ryan Way (Penfield, NY/Penfield) finished second in both 1-meter diving and 3-meter diving with scores of 207.70 (1-meter) and 179.75 (3-meter).
The Saxons finished out the day with a second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Saxons will next travel on the road for a meet at Hobart and William Smith College on Friday, November 17th at 6:00pm.
