DELHI, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team began their weekend of conference competition with a 7-2 loss to Hartwick College on Saturday.
"Today was our biggest test of the year," Head Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "We knew coming into the season that Hartwick would be a strong program and would be the biggest challenge and we were right. We had our chances today, but ultimately fell short. The good news is we hope to see them again in the playoffs. We're onto Russell Sage tomorrow to end our season on a high note!"
Macy Youngberg (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central) and
Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) were the lone Saxons to win during doubles action from the No. 1 position, ultimately winning following a tiebreaker. In singles play,
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) secured a 7-5, 6-0 win from the No. 4 position for Alfred University.
AU will next travel to face Russell Sage College as part of their regular season finale on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
