ALBANY, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team concluded their regular season with a 7-2 win over Russell Sage College on Saturday.
"This was a great way to end our regular season," Head Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "It was unfortunate that we couldn't finish Liz and Abby's match because of weather issues. I can't wait to take this team into the conference tournament next weekend. Go Saxons!"
Alexis Giordano (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) and
Anna Gwozdz (South Wales, NY/Iroquois) were the first to record a win for the Saxons following an 8-2 victory from No. 3 doubles. Gwozdz later appeared in No. 2 singles, winning 6-3, 6-3.
Macy Youngberg (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central) and
Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) remained impressive from No. 1 doubles following an 8-3 win.
Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) rounded out doubles actions for Alfred University, securing an 8-4 victory.
Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) played well from No. 6 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2.
Alfred University will next appear in the Empire 8 Tournament on Friday, October 13.
