Women's Soccer Drops Road Contest to SUNY Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team began their last week of non-conference competition with a 3-0 loss to SUNY Brockport on Wednesday from the A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field.

The Saxons (1-4-4, 0-0-3 Empire 8) defended 20 shots from the Golden Eagles (10-2-1, 2-1-1 SUNYAC), 10 of which were on goal.

Alyssa Smith (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) put across a team-high 2 shots, 1 of which was on goal. Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville-Griffith Institute) recorded 1 shot on goal. Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) finished the game with 7 saves for AU.

"Today was not a good showing from top to bottom," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "The coaching staff needs to take a look at what we are doing and try to figure out how to put the team in a better position to get some results."

The Saxons defense faced pressure early in the opening half, as they successfully rejected a corner kick in the 3rd minute of action. Moments later, the Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard to put AU in an early deficit. A header from Jodean Bray (Bovina Center, NY/Delaware Academy) marked AU's first shot on goal in the 26th minute. Brockport attempted 5 more shots before finding the back of the net in the closing minutes of the first half to extend their lead.

Alfred University continued to find shot attempts in the early moments of the second half, as shots on goal were recorded from Solly and Lily Schena (Olean, NY/Olean). The defense held the Golden Eagles scoreless in the final half up until the 80th minute of action, as Brockport scored once more to solidify their win.

Alfred University will next conclude non-conference competition when they travel to face Westminster (PA) on Saturday at 6:00 PM.
