NEW WILMINGTON, PA – The Alfred University women's soccer team wrapped up the non-conference portion of their season with a 1-0 win over Westminster on Saturday night.
The Saxons (2-4-4, 0-0-3) handed the Titans (10-2, 4-1 PAC) just their second loss of the fall season.
"It feels good to get the win on the road against a really good Westminster team," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "The team really bounced back from our performance on Wednesday. We are looking forward to getting back to work for the final stretch of the Empire 8 games."
Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central) scored once across two shots.
Abby Scanlan (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico) tallied one assist.
Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) picked up 8 saves in the shutout win for AU.
The Saxons found success early in the opening half, as a pass from Scanlan to Gilbert reached the back of the net to give Alfred University the early lead. The Saxons limited the Titans to just five shots before taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, the defense continued to limit Westminster, limiting them to just 2 shots on goal across the first 20 minutes of action. The Titans forced 3 corner kicks in the closing minutes, but the Saxons remained strong on the defensive end to hold on for the win.
Alfred University will next continue Empire 8 competition with a road game against Keuka on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
