ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University Men's Soccer team lost 4-3 against St. John Fisher University in their third Empire-8 game.

The Saxons were led by Gavin Culley (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) who scored two goals. Xavier Bowman (Hampstead, MD/Manchester Valley) added a goal of his own. Juan Jose Menendez Gutierrez (Villanueva Cañada, Madrid, Spain/Woodstock Academy) also had an assist. Goalkeeper Matthew Osmundson (Draper, UT/Juan Diego Catholic) recorded seven saves for AU.

"Tough loss against St. John Fisher today, the team did well to fight off a 0-2 start to go in at half time 3-2 up." Head Coach Tracy Blake said.

The Saxons fell behind early conceding in the 4th minute of the game and then another in the 22nd minute. The Saxons battled back with a goal from Culley just two minutes later to bring the score to 2-1. This gave the Saxons a boost and they followed Culley's goal with another from Bowman. Then just before the halftime break, Culley found the back of the net for his second of the game, to make it 3-2. The Saxons held onto their lead all the way until the 73rd minute when the Cardinals scored on a penalty kick to tie the game. The Cardinals then followed with another goal to make it 4-3 and were able to fight off the Saxons the rest of the way.

Alfred University will next return to Rochester to play against Nazareth University in their fourth Empire-8 contest. The match is set to kickoff on Saturday, October 7th at 1 PM.
