ELMIRA, NY – The Alfred University Men's Soccer team clinched a Empire 8 playoff berth despite their 4-0 loss against Elmira College in their final Empire 8 match of the regular season.
The Saxons were led by Adam Enders (Belfast, NY/Belfast) who recorded two shots with one being on goal. Goalkeeper Matthew Osmundson (Draper, UT/Juan Diego Catholic) recorded two saves for Alfred.
"We didn't show up to play the first half today and it hurt us." Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "We can't do that against teams close to the top of the table. At half time we made some adjustments and things got better but couldn't come back from the early deficit."
Although it wasn't the Saxons day today, they did make the Empire 8 playoffs due to Hartwick College beating Russell Sage College by a score of 2-0. The Saxons will be a 6 seed in the playoffs and travel to face the 3 seeded Nazareth University.
"Happy to have made it back to the postseason and ready to get right back to work tomorrow to prepare for Saturday's match." Blake said.
Alfred University will next play on the road in Rochester for the first round of the Empire 8 playoffs against Nazareth University. The match is set to kickoff on Saturday, October 28th at a TBD time.
