ALFRED, NY – A goal from
Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville-Griffith Institute) for the Alfred University women's soccer team resulted in a 1-1 draw against Elmira College on Sunday from Yunevich Stadium.
The Saxons (3-4-5, 1-0-4 Empire 8) recorded 29 shots against the Soaring Eagles (3-9-2, 0-5-1 Empire 8), 10 of which were on goal.
Solly scored once for Alfred University across 2 shots.
Lina Young (North Collins, NY/North Collins) recorded 4 shots on goal.
Jacey Palmgreen (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) was credited with her 13th career assist, becoming just the seventh player in program history to do so.
"Overall, I thought the team played well today," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "Unfortunately, we didn't put a complete 90 minutes together, which prevented us from getting the result we needed. The coaching staff still has a lot of work to do if we want to get into the playoffs."
The Saxons set the tone early in the opening half, recording 5 shots across the first 10 minutes of action. A corner kick opportunity for AU allowed Palmgreen to set up Solly, as the Saxons took the early lead. The defense for Alfred University played well in the first half, limiting Elmira to no shots on goal until the 43rd minute of play. A late save from
Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) allowed AU to go into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
An early opportunity for the Soaring Eagles in the second half equalized the score in the 54th minute. The Saxons had late shots on goal from
Abby Scanlan (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico) and
Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central), but Elmira was able to keep the ball from reaching the back of the net and force the eventual draw.
Alfred University will next compete in their final road game of the regular when they take on Houghton University on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
