ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University Men's Soccer team tied 1-1 against Russell Sage College in their sixth Empire 8 match of the season.
The Saxons were led by Xavier Bowman (Hampstead, MD/Manchester Valley) who scored a goal and had a team high four shots. Gavin Culley (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) added an assist for AU. Goalkeeper Matthew Osmundson (Draper, UT/Juan Diego Catholic) recorded three saves for Alfred.
"Tough draw today against Sage." Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "I thought we didn't show our level in the first half, however in the second we showed how we can play and dominate a game."
The Saxons were down 1-0 going into the half time break but turned things around in the second half. A goal from Bowman after a Culley shot that rebounded out, sparked the Saxons back to life to bring the score level at 1-1. A Chase Freeland (Hornell, NY/Hornell) shot right at the end of regulation narrowly missed the bottom corner, almost winning the game for the Saxons. Alfred out shot Sage 14-7 in the second half and generated many solid chances but were unable to find the back of the net for a second time.
"Disappointed in the result, I thought we did enough to win the game" Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "Need to win next Saturday at home."
Alfred University will next play at home against Utica University for the teams Senior Day. The match is set to kickoff on Saturday, October 21st at 4:30 PM.
