BRADFORD, PA – The Alfred University women's volleyball team defeated University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Tuesday evening, 3-0 in non-conference road action.
The Saxons (6-9, 2-2 Empire 8) are now on a three-match win streak with all of those being three-set wins, making it the first time since the 2000 season that they did that. They defeated the Panthers (3-15, 0-2 AMCC) 25-20, 25-19 and 25-22 on Tuesday.
"Coming off of two emotional conference wins it can make for a trap match. It's always good to get a quality non-conference win, especially against a team we haven't beat since 2000," Head Coach
Mike Honeycutt said.
Taylor Malone (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Casey Grange (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) were the only players in the entire match to hit double-digit points. Malone had 16.0 points from 12 kills and four service aces. She had a double-double by adding 10 digs. Grange had 15.0 points from kills with a hitting percentage of .357 with only five errors on 28 attacks.
Delaney Sims (Bogart, GA/George Walton Academy) was an all-around threat for the Saxons as she totaled 7.0 points from five kills, a solo block and two block assists while having a match-tying 24 assists and adding five digs.
Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) had a team-leading 12 digs with 5.0 points, all from a match-leading five aces.
The Saxons will next head to Houghton University on Friday, October 13 for Empire 8 action.
