ALFRED, NY – A second half push from the Alfred University men's basketball team led to a 77-50 win over Medaille University on Tuesday evening as part of a Saxon-for-Saxon outing.
The Saxons (12-4, 7-2 Empire 8) shot 49.2 percent from the field while the Mavericks (5-9, 3-4 Empire 8) were limited to 20 percent from beyond the arc.
Alfred University was led by

"I know our guys love when their peers support them," Head Coach
Erich Kaempffe said. "We hope the students come out for all five of our remaining home games. We really appreciate their energy."
A layup from
Elliot Bowen (Salamanca, NY/Ellicotville) was followed by a three-point basket from
Casey Curran (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) to open the first half to give the Saxons an early lead. Later in the quarter, the Mavericks answered with four quick points of their own to equalize the score. Five additional points from Medaille had AU trailing for the first time with just over four minutes remaining in the half. Schmidt scored the last four points for Alfred University before they went into halftime with a 34-32 lead.
Adam Enders (Belfast, NY/Belfast) opened scoring for the Saxons in the second half with a shot from beyond the arc. Marshall scored 12 consecutive points for AU to extend the lead by as many as 14 points with just over 10 minutes to play. A 10-0 run by the Saxons left the Mavericks trailing by 25 points with six minutes remaining in the game. Medaille continued to play hard, but Alfred University relied on their depth to close out the game and secure the win.
"We're excited to enjoy tonight's win because Medaille is a terrific program," Kaempffe said. "They're well-coached and their players do a good job. I know our guys are ready to get back to work for Elmira this weekend."
Alfred University will next travel to face Elmira College on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
