ALFRED, NY – The Empire 8 named
Delaney Sims (Bogart, GA/George Walton Academy) of the Alfred University women's volleyball team the Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, after an official announcement from Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Simms had a strong inaugural collegiate debut, totaling 100 assists in three matches over 12 sets while also accumulating stats from all areas of the court. Simms totaled 19.0 points from 10 kills, seven aces, two block assists and one solo block, as a setter. Defensively, she added 34 digs. Simms established her five-set set assists career-high mark at 45 in the loss to SUNY Potsdam. In that match, she also set the bar with six kills and a hitting percentage of .429. Her four-set career-high is now established at 37 set assists in a win over SUNY Canton with a career-best 12 digs in that match.
Sims and the Saxons will next travel to the Hudson Valley to compete in a tournament hosted by SUNY New Paltz. They open up the weekend on Friday night, playing the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College (NY) at 6:30pm. On Saturday, AU faces Empire 8 foe, Russell Sage College, in non-conference action at 12:30pm before closing out the weekend with a 5:30pm match against the hosts.
