ROCHESTER, NY - The Alfred University women's tennis team were handed their first loss of the season in a 6-3 effort against Nazareth College on Sunday afternoon. 

"There were a lot of great matches today up and down the ladder," Head Coach Jordan Crouch said. "That shows immense progress for our team and the growth that we have made. Nazareth is a great program and to be battling with them is a huge compliment to the strides this team has made so far. I can't wait to get back to practice this week and prepare for Medaille and Houghton."

Macy Youngberg (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central) and Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) were the first to score for the Saxons (7-1, 2-1 Empire 8) from No. 1 doubles, winning 8-5. Shortly after, Anna Gwozdz (South Wales, Iroquois) and Eve Liu (Yantai, China/Wilbraham and Monson Academy) picked up an 8-4 win from No. 2 doubles, as AU held a 2-1 advantage entering singles play. Youngberg was the lone Saxon to earn a point in singles action, winning 7-6, 2-6, 6-1. Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Zabihailo played well from singles, as both forced an eventual third set for AU. 

Alfred University will next host Medaille University on Friday with matches scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
