Women's Tennis Remains Perfect Following 6-3 Win Over St. John Fisher

ALFRED, NY – Dominant performances from both doubles and singles resulted in a 6-3 victory for the Alfred University women's tennis team over St. John Fisher University on Saturday afternoon from the William T. Brown Tennis Courts.

"I'm super proud of our team today beating a program we haven't beat yet in my tenure," Head Coach Jordan Crouch said. "We keep building that confidence that we have had so far on the season and use that as fuel for each and every point."

The Saxons took control in doubles action, as the efforts of Anna Gwozdz (South Wales, NY/Iroquois) and Eve Liu (Yantai, China/Wilbraham and Monson Academy) from No. 2 picked up an 8-4 victory. Macy Youngberg (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central) and Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) performed well from the top spot, earning an 8-4 victory. Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Alexis Giordano (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) rounded out doubles play with an 8-4 win from No. 3.

In singles play, Liu was the first Saxon to win a point from No. 2, securing the 6-2, 6-1 win. Youngberg clinched the victory for AU from No. 4, winning 6-1, 6-4. The Saxons enjoyed the rest of the afternoon, as Zabihailo picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win from the top spot.

"Nazareth is a really good program," Crouch said. "They're the reigning champions and we must go in confident and play to the level that we're capable. If we do that, we have a shot against anybody. I can't wait to play again tomorrow!"

Alfred University will next face a quick turnaround when they travel to face Nazareth College on Sunday with matches beginning at 1:00 PM.
