Men's Lacrosse Moving Forward Following Loss to St. John Fisher

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team scored twice in the first quarter but came up short in an 18-5 loss to St. John Fisher College on Wednesday afternoon from Growney Stadium.

The Saxons (8-4, 2-2 Empire 8) finished 22-of-29 in clear attempts while forcing the Cardinals (11-2, 4-0 Empire 8) to 14 turnovers.

Adrian Romero (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) led Alfred University with one goal and one assist across a team-high five shots. Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) finished with one goal and one assist. Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) recorded 15 saves in goal for AU.

"We never gave up today," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "I'm proud of the efforts the team gave. Scott played outstanding today making great saves from many of the country's leading scorers."

The Cardinals scored in the early moments of the first quarter before an assist from Matson to Romero opened scoring for the Saxons. St. John Fisher responded with two additional goals before Dawson Felenchak (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) scored for Alfred, as the Saxons trailed 3-2 entering the second quarter. Nine consecutive goals for the Cardinals in the second quarter left Alfred University behind 12-2 at the break.

Following four straight goals by St. John Fisher in the second half, the Saxons relied on a goal from Ashton Howlett (Brockport, NY/Brockport) in the fourth quarter. Moments later, an assist from Romero to Paul Forte (Greece, NY/Greece Athena) gave the AU offense momentum. Matson found the back of the net for AU in the closing minutes, but two additional goals from St. John Fisher ended the game.

"We have proven to bounce back after a tough loss," Lockner said. "It shows the resilience of our team. This Saturday is an important game to us and we will be ready."

Alfred University will next travel to face Utica University on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
