ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the spring season in a 16-2 defeat to SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday afternoon from Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (5-1) finished 19-of-22 in clear attempts, while forcing the Knights (2-4) to 19 turnovers.

Drew Cartwright (Elmira, NY/Elmira) scored once while picking up two ground balls. Josh Hauman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) recorded one goal from a team-high five shots on goal. Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) totaled 17 saves for the Saxons.

"We need to dodge harder on the offensive end and communicate better on defense," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "Geneseo shot very well and played a crisp game."

The Knights put together an 11-0 lead from the first half before an assist from Jason Berardicurti (Rochester, NY/Penfield) to Hauman put the Saxons on the scoreboard in the third quarter. Three consecutive goals from SUNY Geneseo were answered by an unassisted goal from Cartwright in the fourth quarter. The Knights scored twice more before securing the win.

"The goal for Saturday is to bounce back and play better," Lockner said. "We got knocked down hard, but now it's time to get up and play better."

Alfred University will next host Thiel College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
