Cheer Earns Second Place at Keuka and Most Spirited Team Award

KEUKA PARK, NY -- The Alfred University cheerleading team finished second place at Keuka College on Saturday as the Saxons bested their previous score by almost 20 points.

"The girls were so honored by this recognition, and I'm proud that the judges noticed them in that way," Head Coach Amy Button-Ervin said. "There were two teams in our division and the team we went against (Gannon) was the highest scoring team in the entire competition, earning almost a perfect score. With that said, our team performed almost 20 points higher than just last week. That's an incredible jump, and really impressive for any team, but especially one coming off of an abbreviated spring break and with several injuries."

"In general, the routine looked much cleaner than last week, though we did have a couple of stunts bobble," Coach Button said. "This week we are going to focus on making a couple of difficulty upgrades to the routine and maintaining stamina. Our goal for next week's trip to Penn State Behrend is to have zero deductions. The girls are fighting for it and they've got the skill and ability; we just need to overcome performance nerves and I really believe it'll be a perfect hit performance. I'm eager to see that happen, and I think they're ready to show PA that AU cheer is on the map, too!"

The Saxons will next compete at Penn State Behrend on Saturday, March 19.
