Women's Soccer Comes Up Short to Ithaca, 2-0

ITHACA, NY - The Alfred University women's soccer team could not get themselves on the scoreboard as part of a 2-0 loss to Ithaca College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Saxons (5-5, 2-1 Empire 8) faced a season-high 23 shots, 17 of which were on goal. The Bombers (7-2-2, 2-1 Liberty League) forced 16 corner kick attempts in their win.
Jodean Bray (Bovina Center, NY/Delaware Academy) finished the game with one shot. Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) totaled a season-high 14 saves.
"Ithaca is a talented team," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "It was good for us to see a team like them before we head into this final part of the season. It will help us to see where we can be exposed and what we need to work on."
The Saxons defense faced pressure in the early moments of the first half, as the Bombers put across three corner kicks within the first 10 minutes of action. The defense faced 16 shots in the first half before Ithaca took a 1-0 lead entering halftime. Ithaca quickly followed up with an additional goal in the second half to extend their advantage. The Saxons put up a competitive fight but could not find the back of the net before the final horn.
"The team will continue to work on the things we have been trying to improve throughout the year to make a good final push," Yanni said.
Alfred University will next travel to face Elmira College on Saturday with the first half scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM.
