MORRISVILLE, NY – The Alfred University football team dropped an Empire 8 Conference road contest, 36-0 to Morrisville State College on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons (2-5, 1-2 Empire 8) had a second half scoring opportunity as they previously only had one visit to the Mustang's (6-1, 2-1 Empire 8) zone in the first half. In the third quarter, the Saxons drove from their own 25-yard line all the way to the Morrisville 24-yard line before an interception ended the scoring effort. AU got into Morrisville territory twice in the fourth quarter with both trips ending in turnover-on-downs results.
"Today's game was frustrating and not up to the standards that we set for ourselves as a football program," Head Coach
Bob Rankl said. "As the head coach, I need to have us better prepared to win next week. I know this team is capable of playing at a higher level then we have shown up to this point."
Tim Dahl (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) led the efforts for AU on the day with 12 total tackles (five solo) and a sack for a loss of five yards.
Joe Copp (Minoa, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) had 10 tackles (six solo) and a sack for a loss of seven yards, adding to the defensive efforts of the day.
Offensively, Zuke Smith (Kane, PA/Kane Area) totaled 119 yards through the air as he was 16-of-36.
Max Freeman IV (Painted Post, NY/Corning-Painted Post) rushed 18 times for 64 net yards.
Braden Alexander (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) caught five passes for 43 yards to lead the receivers.
The Saxons will next host SUNY Cortland on Saturday, October 29 at 1:00pm.
