ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team fell in Empire 8 action on Friday evening from the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena to St. John Fisher University, 3-0.
The Saxons (5-12, 2-6 Empire 8) dropped set scores of 15-25, 14-25, 15-25.
Casey Grange (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) led the Saxons with 9.0 points from eight kills and one ace.
Darian Ortiz (Santa Fe, NM/St. Michael's) had 18 set assists and digs while
Anjoeline Armstrong (Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley) led the back row with 19 digs.
Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) chipped in 11 digs and five kills.
AU started the first and third sets with the early leads from first serve, but throughout the entire match, once the Cardinals (15-6, 8-0 Empire 8) gained control of the lead, they only relinquished it once in the third set, off a self-inflicted attacking error, making it 4-3 and eventually 5-3 in favor of the Saxons.
The Saxons will next close out their Empire 8 schedule by hosting Nazareth College on Saturday, October 22 at 1:00pm. Saturday's match is also Senior Day for AU as the volleyball program will recognize the career of Ortiz as the lone senior.
