ONEONTA, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team played to a 90-minute scoreless tie in Empire 8 action on the road at Hartwick College on Sunday afternoon.
The Saxons (6-5-2, 3-1-2 Empire 8) and their defense are now on a three-game streak of shutouts, led by first-year goalkeeper,
Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy). She is now tied for fifth in shutouts in a single season, earning her sixth of the season, tying
Val DiFlorio '90 and
Makenzie Cashmer '22. The school record is 10 shutouts in the 1996 season by
Jill Viggiani '97.
"Today was a tough battle. We were under a lot of pressure in the first half but were able to keep them off the board," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "We are glad to get a point out of the game today."
Barnard-Pratt faced 16 shots on Sunday and stopped all five of them that were on target.
Offensively, the Saxons had four players with shots on goal.
Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central), Julia Flaitz (Arkport, NY/Arkport Central) and
Abby Scanlan (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico) all had one shot and one shot on goal.
Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville-Griffith Institute) had two shots with one on target.
The Saxons will next return home to host the Highlanders of Houghton University on Wednesday, October 8 at 8:00pm in Empire 8 action.
