Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls 3-0 to Rochester

ALFRED, NY- The Alfred University women's soccer team couldn't find enough offensive opportunities in their 0-3 loss to the University of Rochester on Saturday night from Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (3-2-2) defended 31 shots, 14 of which were on goal.

"This week has been challenging for us, playing two good teams in William Smith and Rochester," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "We were able to see our weaknesses and can now work on them this week."

Sophomore defender Jacey Palmgreen (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) had the lone shot on goal for the Saxons. Junior goalkeeper Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) picked up nine saves before being replaced by senior Krissy Chapman (Hinsdale, NY/Hinsdale), who finished with one save across the last 18 minutes of play.

Alfred University faced early pressure from the Yellowjackets offense, rejecting their first 10 shots of the opening half. A corner kick opportunity for Rochester led to a goal to place the Saxons in an early deficit. Despite four shots in the first half, AU trailed 1-0 at halftime. The second half held a similar tone, as Rochester forced four shots across the opening five minutes. Two additional goals from the Yellowjackets distanced their previous lead and ultimately sealed the game.

"We definitely have a lot to work on during practice this week leading up to our first Empire 8 conference match," Yanni said. "We struggled with our momentum attacking and our energy level was not there tonight."

The Saxons will travel to play Buffalo State on Wednesday at 7pm.
