Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Saxons Pick Up 3-1 Road Win Over Buffalo State

BUFFALO, NY- Early scoring from the Alfred University women's soccer team led to a 3-1 victory over Buffalo State on Wednesday night from Coyer Field.

The Saxons (4-2-2) finished with a season-high 24 shots, 13 of which were on goal. AU also forced six corner kick opportunities.

First-year Kayla Silverstein (North Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili) totaled two goals across 47 minutes played. First-year Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville-Griffith Institute) picked up one goal across two shots. Junior Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) finished with four saves.

"I thought we played well in the first half," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "We connected passes and worked together well. Our energy level dropped off a bit in the second half."

The Saxons wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as a corner kick in the 12th minute from sophomore Jacey Palmgreen (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) deflected off the chest of Solly, finding its way to the back of the net for the early lead. In the closing minutes of the first half, a three-on-one breakaway goal from Silverstein permitted Alfred with a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

AU piled on four more shots on goal to open the second half before Silverstein scored on another breakaway opportunity. Despite a late goal from Buffalo State, the Saxons upheld their lead and secured the victory.

"We are looking forward to getting to work the next two days in preparation for our first Empire 8 game." Yanni said.

Alfred University will return home to host The Sage Colleges to open their Empire 8 competition on Saturday at 1pm.
