"Brenna has grown more confident as the season as progressed," Head Coach
Rebecca Streeten said. "Our team found ways to have offensive success tonight, but Brenna is starting to get more comfortable with the ball."
The Highlanders were the first to get on the scoreboard, finding the back of the net at the 3:27 mark. Turner retaliated with her first goal of the game less than a minute later. Houghton forced continuous offensive pressure, taking back the lead. Turner tied the game on an assist from Ehms just 23 seconds later.
After the Highlanders took back control of the lead, a pass across the field from Piechota resulted in Turner scoring once again. The Saxons earned their first lead of the game at the 19:04 mark of the first half, as an assist from first-year midfielder
Ceci Sherwood (Indiana, PA/Indiana) allowed Turner to find an opening.
Houghton scored towards the end of the first half, sending the Saxons into a 4-4 tie at the break.
Two consecutive goals from the Highlanders to open the second half forced Alfred to play from behind. Turner answered with two additional goals, one of which was a free position shot. A pass from Ehms to Turner at the 10:19 mark in the final half gave the Saxons control of the lead.
The Highlanders scored back-to-back goals to earn back the lead. Turner scored twice more with one being a free position shot. A free position shot from Houghton with 15 seconds remaining in regulation sent the game into overtime. Houghton scored early in the extra period to secure the win.
"Our team is starting to gel together as the season continues," Streeten said. "We're handling a lot of the fundamentals, but now it's about doing the small things the right way. Once that happens, we'll continue to grow together and find success."
The Saxons will next travel to play Elmira College on Saturday at 3pm from Campus Field.
