ROCHESTER, NY- A consistent shooting effort from #11 St. John Fisher College resulted in a 21-0 win over the Alfred University women's lacrosse team on Tuesday from Growney Stadium. The Saxons continue the spring season with a 1-4, 1-3 Empire 8 overall record, while the Cardinals improve to a 9-1, 4-0 Empire 8 standing.
Alfred picked up eight ground balls and finished 5-of-16 in clear attempts.
First-year midfielder
Ceci Sherwood (Indiana, PA/Indiana) picked up two ground balls for the Saxons. First-year goalie
Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) was credited with 13 saves.
"We knew it would be a difficult game going in," Head Coach
Rebecca Streeten said. "Playing these tough teams only makes us better in the long-run. We are looking to take what we learned tonight and apply it in practice and the remainder of our season."
The Cardinals pressured the Saxons early on, as six quick goals inside the first five minutes of action forced Alfred to play from behind. St. John Fisher remained aggressive on the offensive end, taking control of a 15-0 lead at the break. Six additional goals from the Cardinals in the second half secured the victory.
"I am hoping the fast pace and pressure we felt tonight will translate into our preparation for the rest of the season" Streeten said.Â
The Saxons will next return home for their Team Molly Game versus Keuka College on Saturday at 1pm from Yunevich Stadium.
