Saxons Complete Home Finale Versus Sage

ALFRED, NY- The Alfred University women's soccer team concluded their final home contest of the regular season with a 3-0 loss to The Sage Colleges on Friday from Yunevich Stadium. The Saxons continue the spring season with a 0-3 (0-3 Empire 8) overall record, while the Gators improve to 3-0 (3-0 Empire 8).

Alfred recorded five corner kick opportunities and drew five fouls against the Gators.

Junior forward Karah Landries (Angelica, NY/Genesee Valley Central) led the Saxons with two shots, one of which was on goal. First-year midfielder Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central) and junior defender Sierra Wilson (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) each tallied an additional shot. First-year goalkeeper Jasmine Sims (Yorkshire, NY/Pioneer) finished with eight saves for the Saxons.

"We are continuing to learn on what we need to work on," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "This will obviously be a building block for what's to come ahead of the fall season."

The Saxons showcased consistency to open the first half, but junior forward Natalie Ricci scored back-to-back goals for Sage to earn an early 2-0 advantage. Alfred earned three corner kicks in the first half, including an opportunity in the closing seconds, but couldn't find the back of the net. Alfred held strong on defense in the second half, holding Sage scoreless through the first 20 minutes of action. An additional goal for the Gators at the 67:34 mark ultimately kept the match out of reach.

"This season has meant a lot to us," Yanni said. "Getting to spend time with the players has been a learning experience for all of us. We'll get better over time."

The Saxons will next visit Nazareth College for their regular season finale on Saturday, April 10th with the first whistle scheduled for 12pm.
