Cassondra Mark (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsbugh Central) and doubles teammate
Kimberly Rauber (East Islip, NY/East Islip) pick up a win for the Alfred University women's tennis team, as the Saxons fell to Nazareth by an 8-1 score in Empire 8 action, at the Annette Shapiro Courts Sunday afternoon.
The Saxons fall to 0-3 (0-3 Empire 8), while the Golden Flyers improve to a perfect 5-0 (5-0 Empire 8) on the season.
Mark and Rauber did their damage against the Golden Flyers at second doubles, defeating Hannah Chesner and Caroline Keegan 8-4.
Anna Gwozdz (South Wales, NY/Iroquois) and
Kailey Reyes (Dallas, TX/Trinity) fell to Aliya Guzman and Brooke Murphy by an 8-2 score.
In singles action, Reyes picked up five games in an 8-5 loss to Murphy at second singles, while Rauber and Mark earned four and three points in their losses at third and fourth singles, respectively. The Golden Flyers swept the six singles matches to earn the 8-1 win.
"Today was an awesome day to play our first outdoors match of the year against a strong Nazareth team," said head coach
Jordan Crouch. "We had some really great points today and the team battled from start to finish."
The Saxons will continue the Rochester road trip on Friday, taking on St. John Fisher College in a 3:30 p.m. start.
