ALFRED, NY – Sophomore
Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's) of the Alfred University men's swimming & diving team was honored for the third time this season in Empire 8 Weekly Awards, as made official in an announcement from Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro on Monday afternoon.
Terrazas was the Empire 8 Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week twice prior to Monday's announcement as he now holds the school record for most weekly selections in a single season in men's swimming & diving history. On Monday, he was named one of the Co-Athletes of the Week, sharing the honor with Hartwick College's
Diallo Marshall. Terrazas and
Andy Edmister '20 both held the record for most in a season with two while Monday's award now ties Terrazas with Edmister and
Chris Deaver '19 for most in a career for men's swimming & diving athletes.
Terrazas solidified his position within the Empire 8 as one of the top swimmers, having not lost to a single E8 opponent during the Ithaca College Bomber Invite this past weekend in his scoring events, while being the top scorer amongst all E8 participants. He first teamed with
William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne), Colby Watkins (New Orleans, LA/St. Martin's Episcopal) and
Alessandro Lagos Canales (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln) in the 200-yard medley relay, combining for a time of 1:36.46, edging out Division II Shippensburg University's time of 1:36.69, earning fourth place. He then took fifth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:14.33.
He then had a similar team in the 400-yard medley relay but replaced Lagos Canales with
Fernando Lagos (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln), taking fourth with a time of 3:34.00. Terrazas added another fifth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.23 before picking up his first third place finish with a time of 53.43 in the 100-yard IM. He closed out his individual performances with another third place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:07.80.
Terrazas was also named one of the Saxons of the Week on Monday, being accompanied by
Madison Palmer (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) from the women's track & field team as she also made the E8 list, earning Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Terrazas and the Saxons will next look to preparations for the 2022 portion of the season as they will travel to Le Moyne College on Tuesday, January 11 for a 1:00pm dual-meet start.
