ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University women's soccer team shut out Elmira College in Empire 8 action to open up Homecoming Weekend Saturday afternoon at Yunevich Stadium.
The Saxons (7-4-2, 2-1-0 Empire 8) had five players earn points on their season totals today as there were two assists on goals. The game-winning goal was scored by
Angelina Gonzalez (Marion, NY/Marion) in the 28th minute of play off of a
Jacey Palmgreen (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) corner kick, adding to her already impressive season total on assists. The first half ended with the 1-0 Saxon lead.
Abigail Austin (Hornell, NY/Hornell) opened the second half with a goal in the 65th minute of play.
Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville Griffith Institute)Â found the back of the net for the third goal of the day off an assist from
Claire Squicciarini (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico).
Anastasia Pavlock (Lakewood, NY/Maple Grove) capped off the scoring on the day with a goal in the 80th minute of play after
Mackenzie O'Brien (Akron, NY/Akron) sent a long pass up the field, allowing Pavlock to beat the defenders and hit the cross net goal.
AU had complete control of the game as they spent the majority of time on the attack, firing off 24 shots (11 on goal) compared to Elmira's two shots with one on target.
Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) picked up the win in goal as she made one save.
The Saxons will next head to take on Keuka College in Empire 8 action on Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00pm.
