BRADFORD, PA – The Alfred University women's tennis stood tall in their 9-0 win against the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Wednesday from the Kessel Athletic Complex.
With the victory, the Saxons (4-7, 2-3 Empire 8) have won three of their last four regular season matches.
The first point for AU came from the combined efforts of junior
Isabelle Benoit (Bow, NH/Tilton School) and sophomore
Alex Rossen (Charlton, NY/The Darrow School) from No. 3, as they defeated Avitamarie Demieri and Abigail Martin, 8-2. Senior
Lauren Boshart (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and first-year
Macy Youngberg (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central) outlasted Lauryn Moore and Madilyn Rodgers from No. 1, 8-5. The Saxons completed the sweep in doubles action thanks to first-year
Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and sophomore
Anna Gwozdz (South Wales, NY/Iroquois) from No. 2, as they edged out Lydia Ehrensberger and Caroline Hance, 8-5.
Alfred University had continued success in their singles play, as sophomore
Eve Liu (Yanitai, China/Wilbraham and Monson Acamdey) won her matchup against Demieri from No. 6 in 6-1, 6-2 fashion. Boshart clinched the winning point for the Saxons in a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Martin from No. 3. Rossen, Youngberg, Gwozdz, and Call each won their respective matchups to complete the sweep.

The Saxons will host Houghton College in their final Empire 8 contest of the regular season on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
