ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team was defeated by Ithaca College, 1-0 on Tuesday evening at Yunevich Stadium in non-conference play.
Â
The Saxons (6-4-2, 1-1-0 Empire 8) and their defense kept the Bombers (8-2-0, 2-1-0 Liberty League) scoreless for over 83 minutes of the 90-minute regulation as
Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) logged 11 saves in goal on the evening. The game-winning goal was scored with just three seconds remaining in the 83
rd minute of play as Alex Epifani directed a short, six-yard pass back to Rosie Bostian who chipped in a short goal to the far corner, just barely out of the reach of Fuller.
Â
"I thought we came out and battled for 90 minutes tonight against a good team," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "Not the result we wanted but definitely gives us something to build off of moving forward to this last stretch of Empire 8 games. I thought Hannah [Fuller] played very well for us tonight in goal and really kept us in the game."
Â
Despite the strong play on the defensive side of the Saxon game plan, AU put two shots on goal during the contest from
Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville-Griffith Institute) but saw multiple offensive pushes with long passes coming from the likes of
Claire Squicciarini (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico), Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central), Solly and
Jacey Palmgreen (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia).
Â
The Saxons will next host Elmira College on Saturday, October 9 at 1:00pm during Alfred University Homecoming festivities.
