WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Alfred University women's volleyball team split to end the season with a win in non-conference action, falling to Rutgers-Camden in three and then defeating the hosts, Wilkes University in three on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons (10-14, 2-6 Empire 8) were defeated 24-26, 15-25 and 14-25 in the first match of the day while winning the nightcap, 25-23, 25-14 and 26-24.
Honor Edmans (Reno, NV/Reno) led the way in the second match, scoring a team-high 11.0 points from eight kills, four block assists and one block solo.
Amanda Burns (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) followed with 8.5 points as she had a match-high five block assists and five service aces to go along with one kill, 25 set assists and 10 digs.
Sarah Raeman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) and
Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) each had 8.0 points, both getting seven kills and an ace.
Fiona McNeil (Fayettville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) rounded out the scoring efforts with 7.5 points from seven kills and one block assist.
Chun led the defense with 14 digs in the second match with
Darian Ortiz (Santa Fe, NM/St. Michael's) following with 13 attack stops.
In the first match,
Rylee Russin (Broomfield, CO/Broomfield) led the Saxons with 6.5 points from six kills and one block assist. Raeman supplemented with 6.0 points from four kills, an ace and a solo block.
