Saxons E8 Conference Matchup Ends in Draw Versus St John Fisher

ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University women's soccer game endured a competitive matchup against St. John Fisher College, resulting in a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening from Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (9-4-4, 4-1-2 Empire 8) defended 17 shots, seven of them being on goal.

"Overall, I thought we played very well today," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "It was a physical game, and we did a good job limiting the opportunities for #10 for the Cardinals. Going into our last regular season game, we'll continue to improve on smaller aspects to be successful in the Empire 8 playoffs."

Defender Jacey Palmgreen (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) scored on her lone shot taken in the game. Forward Abigail Austin (Hornell, NY/Hornell) finished with a team high of two shots on-goal. Goalkeeper Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) picked up five saves.

The Cardinals got the early lead after Tori Cruz found the back of the net within 19th minute of play. The Saxons defense was able to hold their own in the remainder of the first half of play, successfully defending three shots and one corner kick, entering halftime with a 1-0 deficit.

The Saxons answered back with a goal of their own on a free kick from Palmgreen within the 65th minute of play. AU rejected four corner kicks from the Cardinals in the second half, sending the match into overtime.

Neither team was able to get any rhythm going offensively in the overtime periods, resulting in a draw.

The Saxons will conclude their regular season by hosting Nazareth College for their Senior Day next Saturday at 6:00PM.
