Saxons Sound The Horns With Three-Set Sage Sweep

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team topped Russell Sage College on Friday evening in three sets during Empire 8 action in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
 
The Saxons (9-12, 2-5 Empire 8) won handily with set scores of 25-13, 25-16, 25-16. Earlier in the season at the SUNY New Paltz Tournament, the Saxons defeated the Gators (5-19, 1-6 Empire 8) in non-conference action, 3-1 with scores of 25-9, 24-26, 25-10, 26-24.
 
"I think we did a fantastic job tonight of stringing together efficient play," Head Coach Dakota Pruiss said. "Amanda [Burns] ran an amazing offense and got our middles going. I was very proud of the fact that she kept every single hitter hitting positive."
 
Honor Edmands (Reno, NV/Reno) had a match-high 13.0 points off of a match-high 11 kills and a match-high two solo blocks. She hit a .273 off 22 attacks with only five errors. Jaime Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) joined the double-digit club as she had 10.0 points from seven kills and a match-high three aces while chipping in a team-second best, 11 digs.
 
Sarah Raeman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) contributed 9.5 points from eight kills, an ace and a block assist along with Fiona McNeil (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitte), who had a match-high (10 or more attacks) hitting percentage of .333 as she had seven kills on 15 attempts with only two errors for 7.5 points.
 
Amanda Burns (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) had 32 set assists on the evening, topping the entire Sage team who had 19. She finished with a kill and an ace for 2.0 points while helping on defense with five digs. Darian Ortiz (Santa Fe, NM/St. Michael's) led the defense with a match-high 15 digs as she also had a kill from the back row and two aces while chipping in two assists.
 
The Saxons will next close their home schedule as they host Hartwick College at 4:00pm in the final Empire 8 match of the season on Saturday, October 23.
