ALFRED, NY – First-year
Max Freeman IV (Painted Post, NY/Corning-Painted Post) was named one of two Empire 8 Football Co-Offensive Players of the Week on Monday afternoon in an official announcement made by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Â
The first-year Saxon had a day on Saturday in Empire 8 action on the road as Freeman rushed for 167 yards, almost doubling the efforts of any other rusher on the day at St. John Fisher. Freeman averaged 7.6 yards a carry, an average that was brought down as the Saxons were attempting to kill the clock in the final minutes of their third win in a row. Freeman rushed 22 times, just two more than any other ground player, and had a gain of 53 yards for a game-high and a 49-yard gain that set up the Saxons game-winning score. He also scored a touchdown in the first half that tied the game up at 14-14 going into halftime.
Â
Joining Freeman as the other Co-Offensive Player of the Week was SUNY Brockport's
Jala Coad.
Â
On Monday, Freeman was also named one of the two Saxons of the Week, joining women's swimming & diving graduate,
Victoria Cramp (Hornell, NY/Hornell). Two other Saxons joined Freeman on the E8 Weekly Awards as
Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) was named the Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and
Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's) was named the Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week.
Â
Freeman and the Saxon football team will next host Morrisville State College on Saturday, October 23 at 2:00pm at Yunevich Stadium.
