MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The tandem of senior
Tori Pellegrino (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and
Lauren Boshart (Oswego, NY/Oswego) of the Alfred University women's tennis team earned a doubles win, as the Saxons returned to action in an official capacity with an 8-1 loss to Pfeiffer in their first match of spring break, held at the Knapp Tennis Center Monday afternoon.
The Saxons fall to 2-11 overall, while Pfeiffer improved to 1-7.
Pellegrino and Boshart grinded out a tough victory at first doubles over Pfeiffer's Anna Branson and Elithe Hudson, an 8-7 (4) victory. In second doubles, the team of
Cassandra Mark and
Kailey Reyes (Dallas, TX/Trinity) dropped a heartbreaker, by an 8-7 (5) score to Maddie Hatley and Sydney Honeycutt.
The Falcons then swept all six singles matches to earn the team victory. Pellegrino took Honeycutt to three sets in her match at No. 1, but fell by a 6-1, 3-6, 4-6 score.
"It was another great test for our women's tennis team today," said head coach
Jordan Crouch. "We were able to go out and compete and play some very close matches. Going to be using this match as motivation for the rest of the week!"
The Saxons will head to Fayetteville, N.C. for their next match, taking on Methodist University Wednesday at 2 p.m.
