FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Alfred University women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision on the road to Methodist in its penultimate match of the regular season, held at the Clayton Tennis Center Wednesday afternoon.
The Saxons drop to 2-12 overall, while Methodist improves to 10-5.
The Saxons started off strong against a quality opponent, earning wins in both first and second doubles. The team of
Tori Pellegrino (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and
Lauren Boshart (Oswego, NY/Oswego) defeated Methodist's Sydney Bird and Allyson Hays by an 8-4 score. In second doubles,
Kailey Reyes (Dallas, TX/Trinity) and
Cassandra Mark defeated Savannah Lee and Hannah Higgins by an 8-5 score.
Methodist then swept the six singles matches to earn the team victory.
"Today was a great day for tennis," said head coach
Jordan Crouch. "We got to experience some fantastic weather against strong competition from Methodist and our teams were thrilled to have the opportunity to compete. Great job for our women's first and second doubles for each getting big wins! Looking forward to our next match on Friday!"
The Saxons will finish Spring Break against Mary Baldwin in Staunton, Va. Friday at 3 p.m.
