ALFRED, NY -- For the second time in her inaugural collegiate career, Alfred University's Ana Ion (Bucharest, Romania/Episcopal School of Jacksonville) has been named the Empire 8 Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday as made official in an announcement by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro.

Ion averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game to lead Alfred last weekend. Ion tallied 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, adding five rebounds at Elmira College on Saturday. She added 10 points and a season-high three steals at Hartwick on Friday. Ion is averaging a team-best 11.5 points per game in 2019-20, which is tenth among all E8 players.

Ion and the Saxons will next host The Sage Colleges on Friday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Empire 8 action.
